The Center for American Muslim Research and Information (CAMRI) in 1993, under the leadership of Mr. Zaheer Uddin, started a pioneering work of research and study of thousands of products which are commonly used by Muslim households. They published the first volume of A Handbook of Halal and Haram Products, containing more than 5,000 products along with some important articles in 1994 and in 1998 they produced the second volume of this book with more than 6,000 items plus some useful articles on this subject matter. After that many editions and updated editions came out.
Now, we are very pleased to present the digital version of this pioneering work plus tons of other related
articles, videos and a third volume of A Handbook of Halal and Haram Products.
All together, there are over 22,000 products and many articles in three volumes and you can search these products on our portal.
We have used the following three basic methods to conclude our findings:
1. Physical survey and scrutiny of products and ingredients
2. Checking of ingredients through correspondence with the food companies
3. Inquiries of products and ingredients by calling food companies
We had very good response from the food manufacturers. If we were not sure about any product due to the doubtful or lack of satisfactory information, we have not included those items in our books and databank. Every year we review our data. According to our knowledge, information and understanding, all the data and findings in the books and the databank is correct. Although we have done this diligently, methods of food technology and ingredients are prone to change. Therefore, one must read the labels and especially look for the Haram ingredients. If you have any doubt, please call the company and inquire.
We welcome any suggestions, feedback and comments.
We seek Allah’s forgiveness for any mistakes and shortcomings in this work. May Allah accept our humble efforts for His Pleasure. Aameen.
